SHEILA BUCCHINO STOLL – SMASHING GOOD FUN!

Breaking things isn’t always bad! Like they say, “One gals trash is another gals treasure!” How true this has been for me in my art-making experience. I use a wide range of materials in my work and most if it comes from our recycle bin, broken household items and even the side of the road. Nothing is beyond my scope when it comes to inspiration and breathing new life into discarded items is a real pleasure of mine.

Tonight we’re going to explore the glass smashing art experience of mosaic. Using a variety of glass and ceramic materials, we will design a collaborative piece together and discuss the basics of mosaic art. I will discuss choosing a substrate, which adhesive is best for those substrates, how to mix and use thinset mortar and grout and introduce the tools that are needed to get started making mosaic art. I have a few resource materials that will help you remember the tools and techniques that we will cover tonight, so don’t worry, I got you covered!

Speaking of covered, I’ve also provided gloves, safety goggles and masks. I will make every attempt at teaching you how to stay safe while you’re being wild and crazy smashing things around your house.

Coming in April – A New Art Show – People’s Choice!

This April, in addition to our Spring Art Show and Competition, we will be presenting a new “People’s Choice” Art Show at the Lake Houston YMCA. The show will be a one-day show on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Bring in your artwork that you want to display – any age (as long as it’s “family friendly”). People entering and leaving will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite, and the lucky winning artist will receive a $25 prize! Please include your contact information so that anyone who is interested in buying your work can get in touch with you. LHAA collects a 10% commission on any art sales resulting from one of our displays or shows. Be sure to keep that in mind when pricing your work. Prices won’t appear on the work itself; you can give that information when buyers contact you.

You can drop off your art for this show at the Y either Friday morning from 8:00 to 10:00 am or Thursday evening from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Take down and art pickup will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 6:00 pm.

Spring 2023 Art Show and Competition

Our Spring Art Show will be Saturday, April 22, 2023. As always, we will send you the show prospectus and poster and help you with registration. Watch this space!

Kingwood Public Library Art Changeout

We will be changing out the artwork at the Kingwood Public Library on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11:00 am. Any paid member who has helped us in the past (or is willing to help with the changeout on this day) is eligible to bring in their art for display. Just be sure the piece is ready to hang, with picture wire. Help us keep the display fresh, with new things for library patrons to look at!
