Texture and color are her main interests, and she paints from life Alla Prima style in oils.

Graduating from the University of Georgia with a BFA in Painting and Drawing, Nancy continued her training with workshops under David Leffel, Gregg Kreutz, Quang Ho, Carolyn Anderson, and Joe Anna Arnett before attending the Art Students League in New York.

The art changeout at Skero’s will happen tomorrow, Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. This is a change from the previous announcement, so if you plan to be there, note the time change.

Also, the art changeout at Kingwood Public Library will be on Friday, May 27 at 11:30 a.m. Any paid members who have volunteered their time to us (helping with the art changeout counts) are eligible to bring art for display at these locations. We will be there for the changeout at 11:00 a.m. If you have art hanging at the library but can’t make it to the changeout, it will be left there until next time. If you have new pieces and wish to display them on the library wall, you must be a paid member of LHAA, and your art must be ready to hang, equipped with picture wire, not sawtooth hangers.

Our best wishes to you for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We hope to see you in January!

April Zoom Judge’s Walkthrough

Judging is Complete for our Spring 2021 Virtual Art Show and Competition!

To find out who our winners are, be sure to attend the Zoom Judge’s Walkthrough on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. This will take the place of our regular monthly general meeting. Our judge, Laura Spector, will give a presentation highlighting each of the winners, with commentary added. All paid members will be invited to the meeting. So watch your email for your invitation! Meet and greet will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the presentation starting at 7:00 p.m.

This will be our first virtual judge’s walkthrough, so be sure to attend. These reviews are valuable to all artists as an opportunity to improve their work.

Art Opportunities In Our Area

Recently Received Letter from the Northwest Art League

Hello there😊

I am the secretary and newsletter representative for Northwest Art League (NWAL).

We have continued to hold our monthly meetings online via Zoom, every third Saturday of the month. We thought that since our meetings are virtual, this would be a perfect time for members of other leagues to join in with us. No traveling involved, yay! We would really appreciate it if you would share this information to your art group.

Here is what is happening in February and March:

  • We have an art DVD showing via Zoom, every Saturday morning, at 09:30 a.m., except when we have our meeting or show. The DVD showing for tomorrow (Saturday, 2/6), will be Fast and Loose with Frank Francese (Watercolor).
  • Our next meeting will be on February 20, at 10:00 a.m. Following the meeting, we will have a demo artist. This month, the demo artist will be Joan Fullerton, teaching abstract art and concentrating on introspection.
  • In March (20th), we will have our spring art show, which will also be virtual. Art entries will be accepted as a photograph and the art will be registered online. There will be a Zoom meeting on the day of the show to announce the winners and listen to the judge’s critique. Last year, we held the fall art show virtually and it was a great success.

For those wishing to attend, please email carolhoyland@comcast.net and I will forward the link.

If you agree, I will send a reminder email each month, a week or so before the meeting, that you can forward to your group.

Lastly, if you have any news or information that you would like to share with NWAL, I will happily forward it to our members.

Thank you so much!

Happy painting, stay safe.

Charles Bender Performing Arts Center

For All Artists Who Are Planning to Display Their Art at the Bender Center:

Set-up for the display is Monday, June 10, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.
The pre-showtime hours during which we need to be there are:

Friday, June 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, July 7 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Friday, July 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Takedown is tentatively scheduled for Monday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m.

Our presence is requested at the pre-show so that we can discuss our art with the public.  This will afford us an excellent opportunity to market our artwork.  If you have unavoidable previous plans that prevent your coming to one of the events, please make sure that someone is there who can answer questions about your work.

Participants should plan on bringing 3-4 art pieces.  That number may need to be adjusted during hanging on June 10, depending on how many total works are there.  There is no harm in having one or two extra artworks on hand in case extra space is available.

We are also encouraged to invite friends and family members to attend one or more of the shows at the Center.  These are musical programs intended to provide an enjoyable evening for the whole family.  You can find the schedule or performances on their website.

The Bender Performing Arts Center is located at:

611 Higgins Street
Humble, TX  77338

As a reminder, to be eligible to hang your art you must be a paid member and have helped us in some way during this season.

If you mean to hang your art here with us, please respond with a phone number at which I can reach you.

Thanks,
Joel Salmons
