Meeting Program

Our September meeting is to be a Meet-And-Greet, with a little extra. Since we have a few new members, everyone is invited to bring a sample of their work to form a “Mini Gallery”. It doesn’t matter how old it is, just something that will show people what kind of art you enjoy creating. We also hope to have a few of our members doing small demos. This way we will get to know each other better!

New Season starting in September – Dues

Our new year starts in September.

For this upcoming year, our dues are capped at $40 a year rather than at $50. Also, if the artist is under 18 or if the artist is a current college student under 22 the dues are $10 per year.

We are currently accepting dues for the new year. We take: cash, check and Zelle (lakehoustonart@pm.me).

Creative Challenge

At this meeting we will also reveal the new Creative Challenge theme, for anyone who wishes to create a piece of art to bring in.

Kingwood Public Library Art Changeout

For anyone who did not already know about our Wall of Art at the Kingwood Public Library, the library has allowed us to use one of its upstairs walls to display our artwork. Any paid member is welcome to bring in their art to show to the public. The work of art must be ready to hang – with picture wire, not toothed hangers.
The art is changed every 3-4 months. If you have something on display there, be sure to show up to collect your work – and bring something new! You can bring in one piece or several, as you please.
The next art changeout will take place on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Enter at the side of the building, through the enclosure that holds the dumpster. The employees can direct you to the stairway.

June 2026 General Meeting

We have a new meeting room, in the new section of the church. For this month, enter through the Main Sanctuary Doors, and follow the hallway to the left, down the corridor, and into the new building. Take a right, and our room is the last on the right.

June Agenda –

We do not have a Demo this month, instead we are having creative time with fellow artists and friends. Bring your current project, bring Show & Tell, Tips & Tricks, and bring questions for an art focused Q&A!

Dues

We are accepting Dues for the upcoming year (September-September). We are now offering Zelle as an option for paying your dues. It should be very easy, and won’t involve the fees charged by PayPal. So, going forward, we will accept only cash, check or Zelle for payments. Ask us if you have questions.

Dues are $40 for the summer until September 1st.

Look Book

Consider adding yourself to our Look Book! With an up-to-date Look Book we can approach potential local display locations to show our work to more people. Write a short artist bio and send 4-5 high-res pictures of your art to sheilabucchinoart@yahoo.com.

Note that we have a new meeting room, in the new section of the church. Enter through the Office entry, like normal, take a right down the hallway until you come to the last set of doors on the left. Enter through the doors and follow the hallway around to the right. B165 should be the last door on the right. See the building map below.

Our Demo Artist for May is Tetyana Aleksenko – Pastels

My name is Tetyana Aleksenko, I am an award-winning artist who paints mostly in soft pastels and oils. I am specializing in seascapes, florals, and portraits. After a 20+ years carrier in a biomedical field, I became a full-time artist in 2022, and enjoy every minute of it.  I have served as a President of the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas since January 2025 and as a Board Member of DEGA international Art Association since 2025. I am an Associate Member of The Pastel Society of America and an art instructor who teaches classes and workshops in The Woodlands and surrounding areas since 2023.

Creative Challenge submissions are due. Theme: Wisdom or Hope, interpretation of one of these words

Art Call Submission Deadline Approaching

The deadline for entering the LSAG June 2026 art contest is Midnight, May 24, 2026. If at our recent Art Show and Competition you won a ribbon for Best Of Show, First, Second, Third, or First Honorable Mention, you are eligible to enter LSAG’s first in-person competition in six years! It will be a three-day event. The link for instructions for entry is here. Don’t miss your chance!

Membership Dues

LHAA is coming to the close of the main season, heading into our summer program, which will be creative time with fellow artists, Q&As, and possibly workshop type activities.

Our new season kicks off in September 2026, and that means that we will begin taking dues for next year at our General Meeting tomorrow, April 21st.

This year, we are offering an early bird discount for adult memberships, dues will be $35, instead of the normal 50$. Early discount will end on May 31st. In June, dues will still be discounted to 40$. When September starts, dues will increase back to the full amount $50. Student memberships will remain at 10$.

How to Pay

We will be glad to accept payment via cash, check or ZELLE. Please note that we’ve removed the option to pay through paypal. If you wish to ZELLE your dues to us, you can do so by using our email address lakehoustonart@pm.me. Please write DUES 2026-2027 in the comment box. If you wish to send a check, please email us for the address, as we no longer use the P.O. Box

Demo Artist for April is Diane Brahm

My journey in art has taken me to many places, both physically and intellectually.  I tend to embrace the beauty of classic realism in my  painting and drawing, but continue to search for my own contemporary approach to modern portraiture and design. As I always strive to  step toward a fresher presentation, I love testing and developing new techniques and ideas with creative intuition.

I have enjoyed presenting insightful demonstrations, teaching classes. and judging and jurying art shows in and around Texas. I currently teach painting and drawing in west Houston.

It’s always a pleasure to work with my local art community in the greater Houston area, and I currently serve on the boards of Houston Civic Arts Association, Houston Art Society, and previously West Houston Area Artists. 

Earning a BFA in studio art at the University of Texas/Austin gave me the academic training in drawing, painting, sculpture, and graphic design. I have furthered my education in painting oil and pastel, portraiture, and sculpture by attending classes at Glassell, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, University of Houston, and many, many workshops and classes presented by outstanding professional artists. It is an honor to have received many awards both locally and nationally

Art Show and Competition

Many thanks to all of you who participated in last Saturday’s art show! We had a great turnout, and quite a few entries, and lots of interest expressed in our society!

Library Art Changeout

Our next changeout of the art on the wall at Kingwood Public Library will take place on Friday, May 15, at 10:00 a.m. If you have art hanging there, come in to pick it up, and bring some more to leave in its place. If you are a paid member you are welcome to bring your own art pieces to show to the public for a few months. Just be sure it is fully ready to hang, with picture wire.

Creative Challenge

At this meeting we will introduce a new Creative Challenge prompt. This time you may choose the subject – Either Hope or Wisdom.
