Our Spring Show regular entry price will be in effect until midnight tonight, Wednesday, April 24, 2019. After that no more entries will be accepted.
The deadline for entry into the show is Monday, April 22, with late entries permitted until Wednesday, April 24. Absolutely no entries accepted after Wednesday!
An extra exciting news item – Jennifer Wooden from the Charles Bender Performing Arts Center will be attending our show! She wants to see examples of our work before we display them at the Center (date TBD). So lets show her our best! Even if you are not entering the show, be sure to bring in something for the gallery presentation, which will be in the same room as show entries. Bring in as many pieces as you want to the gallery.
You do not need to pre-register or pay in order to display your work in the gallery – just be a paid member who has helped (or is helping) us. Gallery art will be displayed on the same kind of boards as the show entries, so they DO need to be ready to hang – with wire hangers (not the toothed hangers). Be sure to include a paper with your name, email, phone number, and any other contact information you want to include.
Early school board voting will be going on at the Kingwood Community Center that day as well, so we have the potential to bring in a lot more visitors!
There are still plenty of small jobs available if you want to help out at the show. Be sure to check for openings when you bring in your art. See you next Saturday!

Please DO NOT bring your art to the tour of the Charles Bender Performing Arts Center on Thursday, April 11! This tour is meant to give us a look at the place where our art will be hanging. Someone else’s art is there now. We can better visualize this way how our own paintings will look. We will find out later when we can bring pictures for display.

Dr. Nunnery is moving to a new location, so we need to remove all our art from there for the time being. Thursday, April 18 at 1:45 p.m. is the day for you to come in to get your paintings. Dr. Nunnery will let us know if we can bring our pieces back, sometime in June. Please complete your removal before 4:00 p.m. on that day.

The newly re-opened Lake Houston YMCA has offered us an incredible opportunity! Starting in May, LHAA will be teaching art classes for children at the Y! Our own Joel Salmons, who has taught with the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., has complete lesson plans for teaching different age groups of children. The classes will be on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings (one group on each day) for about an hour each. We need some volunteers to help with the teaching. Any amount of time on any of the three days is appreciated. The lesson plans are great, and the classes should be a lot of fun. For further information, contact Joel Salmons at:

Representatives of the Charles Bender Performing Arts Center in downtown Humble have invited our group to display our art at their center! We will be meeting at the Center at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 for a tour of the facility. We will get to see where our art will be hanging. We will also find our then on what day they would like us to bring in our art pieces.
We want all our members to be involved in this event! If you have artwork that you would like to display at the center, come join us for the tour!

In case you are not familiar with it, the Charles Bender Performing Arts Center used to be the Charles Bender High School. It was remodeled in 2014, and now, among other things, hosts a monthly concert series for the entire family. So we will have a lot of viewers for our work, and the potential to make more sales!

Boz Droca is a representational artist working in the tradition of the great naturalist masters of the 19th century. By painting directly from nature Boz is trying to capture a realistic sense of light and space, but for him it is very important to evoke poetry in his artwork.
His father was a people artist and great draughtsman, so Boz has been drawing and painting from an early age. He knew that he would be an artist at the age of 5, when he saw beautiful icons and paintings in local 600 year-old church. After completing his education at the University of Sarajevo, Boz pursued a career as an illustrator and portrait artist. He exhibited his work across Europe (Italy, Greece, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, France and Turkey).
Over the years of his career Boz has combined innate creativity, academic training and the influence of great artists from his Balkan roots (M.Corovic, M.Berber, B.Aleksic, M.Popovic), as well as western masters (A.G.Lopez,C.Bravo,R.Kinstler), to shape his own artistic language.
After moving to Houston in 1999, Boz continued to work as a fine artist, but also became part of the Russell Erwin studio for murals and decorative art. He fell in love with Texas landscapes. He visited Big Bend and studied with masters Bill Zane and David Caton. The result was two sold out one man exhibitions: “Color of Remembrance “and “From Mediterranean to Texas”. He exhibited his work in “Gallery Central (Arkansas),”Gallerie Mado Chalvet”, Segovia and Boz Crown gallery (Houston, Texas).
Boz is also known for his unique teaching style based on his script “Power of observation”. He has tutored painting classes and given demonstration to various groups of students. Recently he has taught art at HCAA Houston. As a member of the Portrait society of America for sixteen years, Boz improved his portrait skills with great American masters Raymond Kinstler and Daniele Greene. Boz’s work has appeared in many magazines and publications in the US and Europe. Recently one of Boz’s paintings was included in the great art collection of HRH Crown Prince Alexander and HRH Princess Katarina of Serbia.
Saturday, April 27, 2019 is our Spring Art Show and Competition. As we did with our Fall Show, there will be an opportunity for paid members to bring some of their other art (not entered in the competition) for a gallery display. Bring those pieces in the same time you bring your other artwork on the 27th.
Another Note: Those of you who have art hanging in Dr. Nunnery’s office that you want to enter into the show may pick it up on Thursday, April 18 at 1:45 p.m. Other paintings may remain there until we have an art change-out.
