June 2025 General Meeting

May General Meeting

We had a good time at the May General Meeting, Listening to Demo Artist Doug Hiser talk about his art and his books, and demonstrating his creation of a beautiful watercolor wildlife scene.

New Meeting Location and Time!

Meeting will be on Tuesday, June 17, 2025

Henceforth our meetings will be at Strawbridge United Methodist Church in Kingwood, at 5629 Kingwood Dr.
It is at the intersection of Kingwood Drive and Willow Terrace. From Kingwood Drive, turn north onto Willow Terrace. Take the first left turn. This should put you in the parking lot in back.
After parking, go up the stairs on the right side of the parking lot. To the left you should see a sign for the Office. You MUST enter through the office door. A helper will be there to let you in and give you directions.
Meeting time has been changed to accommodate the availability of our meeting room. We will meet at 6:00 p.m. The meeting ends at 8:30 p.m.

What to Bring

Since these new meetings will be starting so early, you might want to bring some light snacks to share, as well as your own (non-alcoholic) beverage. Also please bring a plastic bag to pack your trash away with you. We want to be considerate to our generous new hosts!
Our summer meetings, as we explained before, will be informal workshops. For the June meeting we will be working on Printing and Scratchboard. Here is a list of the supplies we are asking everyone to bring for the work:
Pencil
Clothes they are okay getting dirty
Disposable gloves, if you’d like
2″x3″ in high contrast image ideas – images that will be easy to see through tracing paper
Cleaned and flattened Tetrapak container (juice cartons, etc)
Cut down flat pieces of PETE containers (clear plastic fruit containers)
If you want to see how the printing process will work, try this link.

Change in Dues Payment Options

We are now offering Zelle as an option for paying your dues. It should be very easy, and won’t involve the fees charged by PayPal. So, going forward, we will accept only cash, PayPal, or Zelle for payments. Ask us if you have questions.

April’s Demo Artist: Holly Nowak – Textured Layering in Paintings

Holly Nowak is a Texas artist who creates in oil, acrylics, watercolor, clay and other mixed media. She is inspired by her love of nature and her bright, whimsical style is deeply rooted in the Texas landscape.

She has carefully curated a home studio where she has taught children and adults for the last ten years. Just outside her studio door she finds inspiration in her gardens along with an array of pets including her flock of hens she fondly refers to as “The Ladies”.

Holly can also be found at her studio in Houston’s Historic Arts District. Holly’s Winter Street Studio is located in one of the countries largest artist communities called Sawyer Yards where she is in the company of over 400 artists. There she hosts monthly events for Collectors and the public as well as teaches her in person workshops.

She discovered her love of teaching within her home studio after leaving a long career to fulfill her lifelong passion for creating art. Ten years later she has honed her skills not only as an artist, but in encouraging and inspiring others to pursue their own creative journey. Holly’s focus is on inspiring other artists to make their own creative space where they can find their voice as an artist and nurture their own creative spirit.

Remember – Our Spring 2025 Art Show and Competition is Saturday, April 26

Our judge for this show will be Doug Hiser.
See our previous post for the show poster and prospectus.

Kingwood Public Library Art Changeout

Our next changeout of the art at Kingwood Public Library will be on Friday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m.
Any paid member can bring art to display to the public here. Just be sure it’s ready to hang, with picture wire (not the toothed hangers).

Summer Meetings

For our summer get-togethers we will be doing an activity, rather than conducting a conventional meeting. We will let you know what supplies to bring if you want to participate. If you’re not traveling at that time, drop by and have some fun!
Also, starting in June, our meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m. instead of 6:30. Meetings will still end at 9:00 p.m.
June 17 – Portraiture with Linda Hamilton
July 15 – Print making
