January Demo Artist: Marcela Lugones Daneri – Mixed Media

Marcela Lugones Daneri is a mixed media artist currently living in Houston, Texas. She was born in Argentina but has spent most of her life living and traveling the world including Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, as well as North and South America. It is this global culture which gives rich layers to her life as well as her art.

Her approach is intuitive, layering collage, acrylics, inks, pastels and charcoal to convey her ideas in visual form. As an accomplished photographer she uses her own photographs for inspiration. Marcela’s relationship with color is deep and personal and brings a vibrant life to each piece

Library Art Hanging

Our next art changeout at the Kingwood Public Library will be on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. As always, any paid member who has helped out in some way (helping with the art hanging counts) is eligible to bring some pieces of artwork for display in the library. Be sure your art is ready to hang, with picture wire.

The library is a great place for the public to see your work. We do need to change the wall from time to time to keep it looking fresh and interesting. We are planning to switch the art in the library every 3 months or so. If you have business cards, bring a few with you so the prospective buyers can get in touch.

Future Art Displays

Our chair in charge of public art displays, Jeran Walker, would like to update the folder of artwork by current members so that she can more easily arrange for our creations to be shown at other locations. To that end, she would appreciate it if any interested members would put together a page containing a short artist bio and a few examples of some of your best work. Print out the sheet and bring it to a meeting for Jeran. If you can’t print your sheet in color, just email it to amymcleod.conroy@gmail.com.

Creative Challenge

Were you having such a great holiday season that you didn’t have time to work on the Creative Challenge? Good news! The Creative Challenge has been moved back a bit – to the February General Meeting. Remember, there is a $25 prize for the winner. The theme of this Creative Challenge is Opposites.

October Demo Artist: Melanie Wade Leslie – Photo Transfer

A native Texan, Melanie holds academic degrees from Sam Houston State University (BFA – Painting) and the University of Houston (MFA – Studio Art) and has been an active artist and educator for many years.  Under her tutelage, her students have consistently benefited from her teaching, many earning awards and accolades for their work at regional, state and national levels.

Melanie Wade Leslie is an experimental cross-media artist and printmaker with an affinity for color and texture. Her work has evolved over the past two and a half decades into more experimental combinations of drawing, painting and printmaking media, frequently embodying the historically iconic and metaphorically rich imagery of the horse. Focusing upon the unique and universal attributes of legendary equus, Melanie pursues an expressive manifestation of symbolic echoes, germinated out of inter-species collaboration that invites a dialog with the human spirit.

Her demo will be how to do photo transfers.

Reminder – Fall Art Show Coming Up

Remember that our Fall Art Show is to be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Kingwood Community Center. You can find our show poster here. Please feel free to print it out and distribute it to family, friends, and local businesses. For the show prospectus, as well as rules and directions for entering, click here.
This is also the time to pay membership fees. You MUST be a paid member to enter the show! You can pay online by PayPal ($43 for adults, $12 for students K-12) or at our October meeting.
By the way, if you entered your art in the Spring 2022 show and didn’t win a ribbon (BOS, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 1st HM), you can enter that piece again in this show. Deadline for entries is midnight on Wednesday, October 26. Enter now and enter often!
In addition to the art show entries, we will have a gallery where members can display their art to the public. No sales are allowed at the show itself, but be sure to provide contact information so that interested parties can get in touch with you later to arrange a sale. There may be a lot of people at the Community Center that day for early voting, so the chances are good that members of the public will pop in to look around.
There will be further information about the Fall Show in a separate email.

September 2022 General Meeting

Our First General Meeting of the 2022/23 Season Will Be On Tuesday, September 20, 2022

Welcome back to our returning members and welcome to all new members! We will be starting our new season with a general meeting on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at:

Homewood Suites
23320 Hwy 59N
Kingwood, TX
77339

6:30pm Meet & Greet
7:00pm Meeting & Demo

Our September Demo Artist is Inga Strause-Godejord – Hand Painted Silk Scarves

INGA STRAUSE GODEJORD

The name of my company is INGASILKS and I specialize in painting on silk, luxurious hand painted silk accessories for women and men. I am the owner of the company and its sole employee. I do every task from procuring the best quality materials to product design, production and marketing. I am proud of the fact that I can provide my clients with one of a kind, unique, sophisticated, individually designed and made by hand piece. Each piece begins its life as a pure white 100% silk stretched on a frame. Then a combination of techniques is used to create the vivid colorful scarves, ascots and cravats, from a fluid watercolor method to a more controlled resist technique. Each piece is steam-set for hours for brilliant and permanent color. My work differs from many other silk products in the marketplace in the fact that I do not print a design on my scarves but paint each design on by hand.

Another outlet for my passion for silk is teaching. I teach silk painting courses and private classes. I find great joy in this! It is very rewarding when after classes my students say that they never expected that painting on silk would be so relaxing, so meditative; feeling they had not experienced in other art.
