Portia A. Bell received her Bachelor of Fine Arts – Painting/Studio Arts degree from the University of Houston.  She has also studied at the Glassell School of Art.  She has won numerous competitions and awards.  She formerly served on the Board of the Watercolor Art Society – Houston (WAS-H), as the Vice President and Education Director.  She currently teaches there.  She is formerly represented by Morton Street Gallery in Richmond, Texas and by the former Simply Art Gallery in Galveston, Texas.  Her work has appeared in The American Art Collector and Prime Living Magazine.

Thank you to everyone who helped with and or attended our spring 2017 art show and competition! It may have been a little smaller than recent shows, but I think it was a great success.

Special thanks to those of you who provided manpower (including husbands) to move the panels, to those who filled in for Amy and those who stayed and held my hand all day! I appreciate everyone’s help! The show would not happen without you.

Thanks as well to our judge, Sue Syvertson, who did a great job with our show and critiqued every entry for any artist that was there. She was very complimentary of the quality of the show. Congratulations to our best of show winner, Ti (Gridtiya Chotiwan), on her beautiful portrait. Congratulations go out to all of our other ribbon winners as well!

As a reminder, all recipients of a first place, second place, third place, first honorable mention (yellow ribbon) and best of show ribbon may advance to the convention show this summer.

Our next show is scheduled for October 28, 2017. Amy and I have been show chairs for the last 5 years. We have enjoyed doing this job and have both learned a lot in the process, but it is time for us to turn it over to someone new. We are hoping someone will take it over in fall 2017. If you are interested, please let us or any board member know. If we are not able to find replacements, we may not be able to have shows in the future.
