As much as we have all been looking forward to next Tuesday’s meeting, a look at the weather forecast for that day has us concerned. Temperatures are predicted to drop into the twenties, with a high probability of snow. Many of you will likely prefer to stay safe at home and off of icy/snowy streets. So we have decided to postpone the meeting until a more favorable date. We are currently working with Homewood Suites to find a day/time when our meeting room will be available for us.
As soon as we have an alternate day arranged we will let you all know. In the meantime, watch this space for developments!

Our January General Meeting Will be on Tuesday, January 21, 20 Meeting Place: Homewood Suites 23320 Hwy 59N Kingwood, TX 77339 6:30 – 8:30 pm Meet & Greet
We have several activities for our first 2025 meeting. There will be light snacks and a Valentine Make & Take station. If you have any favorite art books you would like to share with us, please bring them in. And in case you are already into spring cleaning, feel free to bring any extra art supplies you would like to offer to others. Plus, let us see any art pieces you are currently working on or just finished for Show and Tell!
But we aren’t just interested in your art materials. We want to hear your ideas, your questions, or any special art tips you have picked up since last we met. There will be a special Ask It basket at the meeting. There is also a survey that you can fill out and leave with us in the box. We would be happy to listen to what you have to say, to answer your questions, and to talk about our future plans for the group.
Reminder – Creative Challenge Our current theme is “Findings”. Your entries will be accepted at the February General Meeting.

Wednesday, February 10 – Studio Time at Kingwood Public Library. We will talk about this at the meeting. Bring your projects to work on, receive feedback/critique, explore others’ media. This is your opportunity to come and make art together at the library, from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m in the 1st floor Meeting Room.

Membership Fees Due After our January meeting we will be deleting from our mailing list anyone who has not yet paid dues for this season. Your dues help to pay for our meeting place, demo artists, show judges, and, most importantly, our student scholarship. Be sure to check on whether you still need to pay. The good news is that, for this second half of the season, dues will be discounted by half!

On December 9, 2024, our group held its annual Scholarship Luncheon, now known as the Linda C. Dumas Scholarship. This year’s recipient was Victoria Munguia from Lone Star College. Victoria is a very promising young artist who shared with us a few of her excellent and powerful pieces. A very good time was had by all, and we wish our art scholar a long and successful art career!
Demo Artist for November Will be Stacy Gresell – Found Object Art
I love objects with multiple personalities- recognizable things that change when incorporated in a piece of artwork. I see that in my work- where vintage & recycled or found objects suggest one thing while the image may suggest another. I love how the layering of encaustic wax reflects the light differently depending on your viewpoint- like water and glass do.
I teach communication at a local community college where I encourage students to look at all sides of the story and I believe my artwork does the same. I am largely a self-taught encaustic painter and I enjoy thinking about the whole piece- the frames in my work, all handmade by me, are usually recycled from some former life and integral to the piece. I have experience with a wide range of artistic mediums: lampwork glass, stained glass, oil, acrylic & watercolor painting, jewelry making, silver smithing, sewing, and leather work? and they all end up in a painting at some point. I teach encaustic classes and work out of my studio in down town Houston in the Sawyer Yards Complex (one of the largest art communities in the US) -Winter Street Studios A4 which is open for visitors the 2nd Saturday of every month.
Creative Challenge – Patterns
Don’t forget – Your interpretations on the theme “Patterns” are due this meeting. Attendees will vote on the winner. And a new theme will be announced for the next challenge!
Art Show on Saturday
Our 2024 Fall Art Show and Competition is Saturday, November 16. Entries should already be in, but do remember to bring any art pieces you would like to share with us to display in the Community Art Gallery. No pre-registration necessary, and 3D art is accepted as well as 2D.

Our group offers art related opportunities for artists and art enthusiasts around the Lake Houston area, including Kingwood, Humble, Atascocita, Huffman, Crosby, Porter, New Caney and others.
