LHAA Group Project – Here is the plan…..

Each of our artists interested in participating will use one new canvas, Sized 6” x 6” x 1.5”. Our theme for this project is “Seasons-Spring and Summer”. Each artist can express this in their own way, so the canvases will all be different.

For publicity purposes these will be aligned in the graphic pattern of a very large mosaic- it should be a treat for the eyes!!! . (We hope the newspaper will think so too and give us good coverage! ) These will be on sale at the Art Show and Competition in April. The target price for each canvas will be $30.00. 50% of this amount will go to the Scholarship Fund, and 50% will go to the artist.

HOW TO GET STARTED

  1. Purchase canvas 6”x6”x 1.5.” Please note that this is gallery wrap. Be sure the depth is 1.5”.
  2. Choose a design of your choice that remind you of spring and summer seasons. So many possibilities. Just a few ideas are… flowers, trees, fruits and vegetables, decorative pots, colorful garden tools, birds, birdhouses, insects, gardens, seascapes, etc, etc, etc.
  3. Use any medium of your choice.
  4. Prepare a card and tape it to the backside of the canvas. List your name, painting title, and medium.

DEADLINES

Please bring your canvas to the Art Show and Competition and it will be added to the display.

April General Meeting

The Prez Sez…

This month is our Spring Show. It will be held at the Kingwood Christian Church on W. Lake Houston Parkway. All the information for entering is on the website. I hope you are all putting the finishing touches on some fabulous paintings to enter. In addition, we are having a group art project for everyone to get involved with. Half the proceeds will go to our Scholarship Fund so that our gift to a deserving student can have a meaningful impact on their artistic education. It will also help get our show more publicity and that could mean more foot traffic and sales for our show. The project theme is Spring and Summer. It will be a small painting on a 6 x 6 x 1.5″ canvas of anything that makes you think of Spring or Summer. The exact instructions are also on the website so check it out and paint a little breath of the season! I can’t wait to see the paintings displayed all together. I’m sure it’s going to be amazing and a fun and lucrative project for our future shows!! I hope you will all try to participate. The deadline is March 31st for photographing for publicity or bring it to the show for display and sales. Ready, Set, PAINT!!!!

April’s Demo

Kristin and Linda Dumas are a daughter-in-law, mother-in-law team of artists who propose to show you how to get started with a piece of art when you are suffering from artist block.  They have studied with Veranne Graham and Mary Todd Beam and discovered some wonderful techniques to get creativity going.  Kristin is a graphic designer who also works in pen and ink, colored pencil, and fractal art.  Linda has been an artist in many different media, including collage, mixed media, pottery, oil, mosaic.  Her favorite is whatever she is doing at the moment.  They chaired the Kingwood Fine Art Festival for several years, and have held many different offices in Lake Houston Area Artists.  They have collected ideas from many wonderful artists and have also done a fair amount of experimenting in art.  They are thrilled to be able to share what they have learned.

Creative Challenge

The topic for April’s Creative Challenge is Water ways (painting water)

Art Tip of the Month

Rough Canvas fix – Are you tired of your canvas or board being rough after gessoing? Let dry thoroughly and sand with an ordinary unprinted brown paper bag to smooth the surface. No scratching of the surface and satin smooth! This also works with purchased canvases!

March’s Demo recap

Thank you to Kathy Earthrowl for giving us an inspiring and uplifting demonstration with ‘Sensory Art’.
