Gouache is my current medium of choice, and I am equally comfortable working in oils and pastels. My main influences are Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh and particularly James Whistler’s paintings of Venice, Italy. I am a keen reader of their biographies and enjoy exploring the places where they lived and were inspired by. Brenham, Texas; Venice, Italy; and Kefalonia, Greece influence me with fabulous preserved architecture, gorgeous surrounding scenery and lovely residents.

Dues Increase

After more than a decade of dues remaining unchanged, rising prices have forced us to increase our yearly membership dues from $40 to $50 ($55 if you pay by PayPal). Similarly, entry fees for our shows will go up from $8 per piece to $10 per piece ($12 per piece for participants who are LSAG members but not LHAA members). Student membership and entry fees will remain the same. This increase will take effect next September for the 2024-25 season. Entry fees for the upcoming show in April will stay the same.

Volunteers Needed

Our secretary and treasurer are in need of qualified people to serve as backup/assistants. Please let us know by email or at the meeting if you have an interest in helping them out.

Public Art Displays

We will have an art display at the Jones Public Library in Dayton, TX (Dayton Community Center, 801 S Cleveland St, Dayton, TX 77535) on February 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Any paid member who has helped us in some way is eligible to show their artwork with us. Please be sure your art is ready to hang, with a wire hanger on the back.

We are also planning a display at the Atascocita Library in March 2024. This library has a display case for art, so those of you with 3-dimensional art may be able to participate. Any 2-D art should be able to stand up leaning on the back of the case. Details to follow.

Kingwood Arts Festival

Our group has an opportunity to display our work for sale at the Kingwood Arts Festival at Town Center on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Before we sign up, though, we need to know how many of you are interested. We should be able to display a number of small works in our tent. In addition to art to show, we would also need a few volunteers to man the tent in shifts during this time. If you have interest in showing your art there and/or supervising the booth, please let us know at the meeting (or by email if you can’t make it to the meeting).
