September 2020 General Meeting

We will be holding a Zoom meeting for our paid members on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. All artists who were paid members for the 2019/2020 season will receive an invitation by email. In that invitation will be a link you can click at the appropriate time and day to join the meeting.

When you click on the link you will be taken to a virtual “waiting room” and given an opportunity to test your audio to be sure that you can hear us. The meeting host will let you in to the meeting once your name is checked against the list of invitees. For this meeting, everyone but the presenter and our Prez, Debra Jones, will be muted except during the designated time for questions and answers.

Artist Demo – Holly Hunter Berry – Animal Portraits

Representationalist, impressionist, colorist, expressionist are a few of the “ist” terms that have defined her work at various times. She continues to grow and push herself to explore new fresh approaches to communicating her message. Never tired of “pushing paint around” she looks forward to working at the easel every day possible. At this stage in Holly’s career she enjoys giving back to the community by teaching her weekly classes and periodic workshops. She tries to teach in a way as to take the mystery out of the painting process. Intuition is important but a strong foundation is important as well and that is her focus. Intuition is personal and can’t be taught…that is the voice of the artist! In addition to giving demonstrations for art groups she has also been asked to be a judge at various art shows.

March General Meeting Canceled

After much discussion and careful consideration, we have decided that it will be in the best interests of our members to cancel this month’s meeting.  Most of us are either in the at-risk group or know someone close to us who is in that group.

Stay home and create more beautiful art!

We will look forward to seeing you all at the April meeting.

Show and Tell

Artists!  Are you working on a new piece of art, or have you just finished something that you would like to share?  Bring it to the upcoming meeting!  We would love to see what everyone has been doing.

Demo Artist for February – Linda Dellandre, Landscapes

Landscapes are my primary form of expression, whether oil or pastel, but plein air is always preferred.  I am awed by the beauty of the land and I try to communicate to the art viewers, a sense of the places I paint, the certain lights of day, or simple glimpses from the side of the road.

I left Sedona in 2011 and have found so much beauty in the Hill Country and the rolling ranges of southeastern Texas. In the plein air spirit, I’ve found beautiful scenes and painted them from the back of my van, while biking, and from my kayak on a lovely body of water.

Happy New Year to All!

Art Changeout at Kingwood Public Library

We will be changing the art hanging at Kingwood Public Library on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 10:30 a.m.

If you have art hanging at the library, be prepared to take it home with you.  If you have helped us as a volunteer during the season you may bring some new pieces to hang.  Remember, your art must be ready to hang, with picture wire – NOT the toothed hangers.  Our art display occupies one whole wall on the second floor of the library, and we rotate the pieces every 3-4 months.  Anyone interested in buying the art they see can contact the artist using the information on the label each of us fills out when we hang our work.

Demo Artist for January is Sylvia Trybek – Still Life

Sylvia Trybek is an award-winning artist specializing in representational painting including still lifes, landscapes, and figurative works.  Working alla prima from life models and subjects is her preferred form of self-expression.  She composes her still life arrangements using props she is emotionally attached to or involved with in her daily activities.

She paints the essence of what she feels and sees.  Strong composition, lively colors, and emphasis on solid drawing form a foundation of her painting, teaching style and philosophy.  As an artist and a teacher, Trybek believes in strict adherence to the highest standards of quality, excellence, and integrity.

Trybek received Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Houston, Texas.  Her teachers include William Anzalone, David Leffel, Howard Terpning, and Master Lim Eow.

Demo Artist:  Fran Ellisor – Oils

Fran Ellisor’s classic and eloquent style of painting is sure to capture your heart. Her paintings have won numerous awards in national as well as regional shows. Her paintings are highly collected. She is represented in corporate and private collections in the U. S. and abroad.  Fran paints on location outdoors or from life about half of the time.

Fran Ellisor has been painting the landscape professionally for over twenty years. She spends much of her time painting outdoors on location and working from life. Her style is a painterly realism; her strokes are confident yet spontaneous; her colors are clean and fresh. She is an accomplished figure and portrait painter and is known for her intimate, elegant still lifes.

The subjects of Fran’s paintings come from her life and surroundings. She has carried her paintbox from Alaska to Mexico and Guatemala, across the United States and to Spain, France, Italy and Greece. She includes these areas from around the world in her works.

It’s not unusual to find this Impressionist painter along one of Texas backroads or creeks, painting what she sees, expressing what she loves. The Texas landscape plays an important role in her paintings including the Hill Country, desert mountains of West Texas, and from the piney woods of East Texas to the lush tropical seaside of the Gulf Coastal areas. You’ll likely see her painting anywhere she finds beauty and interesting subjects.

Our Spring Art Show and Competition Will Be Saturday, April 25, 2020

Art Exhibition Opportunity

On Saturday, November 23, 2019, LHAA will be exhibiting paintings at the Kingwood Garden Center.  Participating artists are invited to bring in two paintings each, plus a “spare” to show and offer for sale.  The show will be from 11:00 am. to 2:00 pm, and exhibiting artists are urged to stay for the entire three hours to make sales and to be responsible for their art.  A 25% commission will be charged on each sale.

Volunteers from previous shows have priority at the exhibition, but if you would like to hang your art here, check with Lynda Feierabend, to see if there are still openings.  Or speak to Lynda at our upcoming meeting.

December Scholarship Luncheon

Instead of a regular meeting in December we will be having a luncheon at a local restaurant in order to present our annual art scholarship check to our chosen Lone Star College art student.  The luncheon will be on December 9, 10, or 11, depending on the chosen restaurant.  If you have an interest in attending, please let us know at the upcoming meeting so that we can finalize our plans.

Upcoming Exhibitions

In December of 2019 we will also be hanging our art at the office of a local doctor.  Specific date to be determined later.  If you are interested in this display opportunity, contact Lynda Feierabend, either by email (see above) or at the meeting.

We are also planning an exhibition of art at St. Luke’s Methodist Church in August of 2020.  Contact Vanita Doyle ( for further information.
