October Demo Artist: Melanie Wade Leslie – Photo Transfer

A native Texan, Melanie holds academic degrees from Sam Houston State University (BFA – Painting) and the University of Houston (MFA – Studio Art) and has been an active artist and educator for many years. Under her tutelage, her students have consistently benefited from her teaching, many earning awards and accolades for their work at regional, state and national levels.
Melanie Wade Leslie is an experimental cross-media artist and printmaker with an affinity for color and texture. Her work has evolved over the past two and a half decades into more experimental combinations of drawing, painting and printmaking media, frequently embodying the historically iconic and metaphorically rich imagery of the horse. Focusing upon the unique and universal attributes of legendary equus, Melanie pursues an expressive manifestation of symbolic echoes, germinated out of inter-species collaboration that invites a dialog with the human spirit.
Her demo will be how to do photo transfers.
Reminder – Fall Art Show Coming Up
Remember that our Fall Art Show is to be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Kingwood Community Center. You can find our show poster here. Please feel free to print it out and distribute it to family, friends, and local businesses. For the show prospectus, as well as rules and directions for entering, click here.
This is also the time to pay membership fees. You MUST be a paid member to enter the show! You can pay online by PayPal ($43 for adults, $12 for students K-12) or at our October meeting.
By the way, if you entered your art in the Spring 2022 show and didn’t win a ribbon (BOS, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 1st HM), you can enter that piece again in this show. Deadline for entries is midnight on Wednesday, October 26. Enter now and enter often!
In addition to the art show entries, we will have a gallery where members can display their art to the public. No sales are allowed at the show itself, but be sure to provide contact information so that interested parties can get in touch with you later to arrange a sale. There may be a lot of people at the Community Center that day for early voting, so the chances are good that members of the public will pop in to look around.
There will be further information about the Fall Show in a separate email.
