Laura Spector will be offering a new Narrative Portrait class this summer, entirely online. Laura has given a couple of art demos at our meetings, and I have taken several classes from her. Narrative Portrait is one of my favorites.
Join me online this summer! ☀️ 🎨 (From anywhere in the world!!!)
💥 Narrative Portrait Painting & Drawing -> 5-week course 💥
5 Wednesday Evenings, 6:30pm – 9:30pm

Oil and acrylic painters are welcome!
Registered students will be provided with high-quality photographs of models to choose from that they will translate into drawings, then build a finished painting. This course is recommended for anyone with painting experience to those who are advanced and looking to paint in a group setting.
Each class will begin with a presentation/ lecture that I create which will cover various techniques and approaches to our goal in class. I will also be introducing work from a variety of painters.

💥 New to online learning? 💥
Zoom has proved to be a significant advancement in many aspects of the my classroom. I’m able to draw directly onto artwork using my Apple Pencil, allowing immediate understanding of changes that can be made in student’s artwork. I am also able to quickly serve up images of work and process as examples. Online teaching offers me more multi-media options to utilize than I’ve ever had at my fingertips in a classroom before. This expedites learning. As a result, I have seen some profound advancements in student’s work across the board (5 courses so far) as a result. While teaching on Zoom is not an apples-to-apples replacement for in-classroom teaching, I find myself truly enjoying both the teaching process.

In the light of the ongoing virus crisis, we have cancelled our April and May general meetings. Those of you who still have art hanging at the Kingwood Public Library, it will have to wait until a changeout of art is possible. We are very sorry for your inconvenience.
Lone Star Art Guild has cancelled its May convention for 2020. They are planning their next convention for May of 2021 at the Lone Star Convention Center in Conroe. Qualifying art from our Fall Art Show should be eligible for competition then.
We will continue to share whatever information we have on our website and on Facebook. If there are further bulletins, we will be sure to let you know.
While we all shelter at home, we thought we would suggest the recent challenge by the Getty Museum in Los Angeles:
The Getty Museum in Los Angeles has challenged fans around the world to recreate their favourite famous pieces of art whilst in isolation at home — and the results are genius.
Taking inspiration from the the museum‘s online catalogue of artwork, the playful challenge has only one requirement: you must use no more than three objects lying around the home. You’ll see below that the rule hasn’t always been strictly followed, but it is just a bit of fun after all!
