Registration Open for 2016 LSAG Convention

Note to all recipients of Honorable Mention awards:

This year LSAG is imposing limits on the number of Honorable Mentions that are allowed to enter the show.  Until we get more specific instructions, no one should register their pieces that received this award.  By all means, register all other award-winning works!

July 29 & 30
Klein ISD Multipurpose Center in Spring

Registration opens THIS WEEKEND,
Saturday, June 4
and goes through June 30, midnight.

“Be inspired & inspire others”

Our theme this year is clear.
This isn’t a tag line; it is what we want to accomplish at Convention.
We want you to go away from Convention with new excitement, new ideas, new approaches to your art, and a large dose of new inspiration so that you may create and motivate others to do the same.

Whether it is through the inspiring testimony of other members and what they are doing to dynamic demo artists, we want to re-light or brighten the creative light within each of us.
And it is bigger and brighter than ever!

Two new presenters this year to take your art career to the next level:

Charles Wallis
on turning your art into your business
—INCLUDED in your convention admission—

AND

Kari Schmidt
on artful presentation and framing

May Updates

Hello, Artists!

We would like to take a moment here to give you the latest information about recent and upcoming events.

May Meeting

Our May meeting (the last until September) allowed us to learn about encaustics from our demo artist, Gwendolyn Plunkett.  Since few of us knew anything about the technique, it proved to be a valuable experience.  Thank you, Gwendolyn!

Library Art Changeout

The art changeout at Kingwood Public Library took place on Monday, May 16.  The new wall of art looks great!  These art works will be at the library all summer, so stop by and check it out!

LSAG (Lone Star Art Guild) Convention Update

Dates: Friday and Saturday, July 29 & 30
Location: Klein Multipurpose Facility in Spring.

Registration for this event should open in June.  We will let you know as soon as we have more information.  Anyone whose work won a ribbon at our Fall or Spring Shows is eligible to register that work for the LSAG Convention.

Note:  Registration will be online, and you will need to send us your registration fee well in advance to have your registration verified.  Your check needs time to make it through the USPS to our post office box before the deadline.  So allow plenty of time.  Waiting until the last couple of days won’t work.

LHAA is one of the hosts for this year’s convention, and our responsibility is that of providing demo artists.  Here is where we need your help.  We need people to help our demo artists with their presentations.

The job includes:
(1) Arriving about half an hour before the presentation to make sure the artist has                everything he/she needs.
(2) Introducing the artist (Reading a short introduction from a piece of paper)
(3) Staying for the entire presentation to make sure it goes smoothly
(4) Helping the artist with cleanup if necessary

This amounts to a commitment of about an hour and a half of your time.  There will be four demos at the convention, so four people each willing to devote 1 1/2 hours to helping out would be greatly appreciated.  If you are interested, send us an email for further details.

The LSAG Convention is a great opportunity to display your work, pick up valuable tips from demos, and purchase art supplies.  We hope to see you there!

May General Meeting

Hello Members!

Our May General meeting marks the end of our 2015-2016 season! Thank you to everyone for making this year such a great success!

Our May Meeting is on the 17th at Homewood Suites.
Meet & Greet starts at 6:30pm.
General Meeting starts at 7:00pm.

We hope to see everyone there!

Wrap Up for LHAA Spring 2016 Show and Competition

First of all, we would like to thank everyone who stepped up and helped with the show!  Without your help, we could not have a show.
Second, we were very happy to have many new faces at the show, as well as many returning familiar faces.  We had 125 entries from 35 artists!  The level of art work was very impressive as well.  We would like to thank our judge, Laurie Humble, for really taking the time during her walk through and giving such thorough feedback to our artists.
Finally, we would like to congratulate our ribbon winners!  Special kudos to our repeat Best of Show artist, Gridtiya Chotiwan, with her fabulous watercolor “Angels of Fire”.

For those of you who ribboned in our Fall 2015 show and/or Spring 2016 show, you are eligible to enter your ribbon winners in the LSAG Convention Show to be held this summer July 29 and 30th at the Klein ISD Multipurpose Facility.  There you will be competing against the ribbon winners from the other leagues within the LSAG.  More information about the entry process will be forthcoming soon.

Demo Artist for May

Gwendolyn Plunkett, Encaustics

Houston-based contemporary artist Gwendolyn Plunkett, guided by instinct and intuition, uses various media—wax, oils, acrylics, paper, and found objects—to create abstract compositions that investigate notions of form, color, texture, and surface. Recently, Plunkett has been exploring frottage and other printmaking processes that do not require a press.

Gwen works as an adjunct  professor for Lone Star College, Cy-Fair.  She earned her MFA at University of South Florida, and has a studio in the Heights.

Kingwood Public Library Art Changeout

We will be changing out the artwork at the Kingwood Public Library on Monday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m.

Anyone who has art currently hanging should come prepared to take your work home.

Any members who have work that you would like to hang on the library wall should bring it in!

Your work should be ready to hang, and you should be prepared to create a label for it with such information as the title of the work, framed dimensions, your name and contact information, and price.

If you have helped us as a volunteer this season you are eligible to bring samples of your work to be displayed at the library for viewing by (and sale to) the public.  Helping to take down the previous art pieces and to hang the new ones counts as volunteering!  Volunteers – the library will be closed at that time, so be sure to use the back door.

LSAG (Lone Star Art Guild) Convention Update

Dates: Friday and Saturday, July 29 & 30
Location: Klein Multipurpose Facility in Spring.

Registration is tentatively scheduled to open in June. When we receive instructions and details we will pass them along to the membership.

LHAA is hosting the Convention this year with 3 other leagues: Livingston, Lufkin and Coldspring. We will need volunteers to help assist the Demo Artists during the convention. If you are willing, please let us know, lakehoustonart@gmail.com. Thank you for your help!

LHAA Meeting Cancelled

Due to the current weather and concern for more rain and flooding, LHAA is cancelling the meeting for tonight. If you know anyone who may not see this, please text, email or call them to let them know.

Be safe and stay dry!
