Our Demo Artist for April: Cheryl Evans – Watercolor

We welcome back, Cheryl Evans, one of LHAA’s favorites.  Cheryl earned her BFA from Stephen F Austin University, and her MFA from University of Houston Clear Lake.  She taught 32 years in the public school system, and then in Alvin Community College.  She teaches watercolor demos, workshops, and judges local art competitions. Her work reflects her joy and captures the beauty in everyday people and places.  She has received an all star rating from all her students.

Art Talks at Mercer Arboretum

On April 2, Joel Salmons gave a very successful art talk at Mercer Arboretum. Several groups in the area attended, and everyone enjoyed the experience greatly. Thank you, Joel!

Our next Art Day at Mercer will feature Sheila Stoll, who will give instruction on drawing and perspective. If you have some free time, be sure to stop by on Tuesday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m. Mercer Botanic Gardens is located at 22306 Aldine Westfield Rd. in Humble, TX and is free to the public.

In addition, Mercer would greatly appreciate your donations of spare drawing pencils and colored pencils to help serve their enthusiastic attendees. Please bring your spare supplies to Tuesday’s meeting. Thank you!

Upcoming Events – Kingwood Arts Festival

LHAA will be presenting their work for viewing and sale at the Kingwood Arts Festival on Saturday, April 20. Those of you who will be bringing their art in should arrive by 10:00 a.m. at Kingwood Town Center. Everyone else is welcome to stop by to see the art. Many different artists will be there between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Click here for more details.

Upcoming Events – Spring 2024 Art Show and Competition

Don’t forget – Our Spring Art Show is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, at Kingwood Community Center. Check-in will be at 9:00 a.m. with public viewing from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Early runoff voting will also be going on, so be sure not to disturb the voters.

Also: In case you didn’t see our email, Lone Star Art Guild has rewritten its rules for art competitions, which we use as a guide for our own rules. If ratified by the art clubs, the rules will take effect next year. We urge you to take a look at the proposed changes, and bring your comments and suggestions to April’s meeting. You can also use this opportunity to re-familiarize yourself with the rules and categories. Check your email for a copy, or we can have a printout available for you to see at the meeting.
